4.3 Course Description
This course is designed particularly for western beginners and local Singaporean Chinese who has an English education background.
This course gives a clear, step-by-step guidance for students to learn to write Chinese characters, start from those which have a few easy strokes to others which have more complicated strokes. Pinyin and English translation are marked with each character so that students are able to remember the meaning and pronunciation while practicing writing and reading. Thus the reading and writing of Chinese characters become enjoyable but not boring.
After several months of study, students can easily recognize and write 2000 Chinese characters, which enable them to write Chinese emails and read the Life forum of Chinese newspapers. They will be able to reach the reading and writing level of primary 6 of Singapore local schools.
The ability to read and write is critical in a language study. If a person can only understand the language through listening and speaking but not able to read and write, he is still considered incompetent. The reason why a student enters a school for a systematic study is to avoid incompetency. Therefore, the reading and writing of Chinese is particularly critical. A person who cannot read or write Chinese can only keep his language competence at the stage of a child of 5-6 years. Thus he is not able to enjoy profoundly the pleasure in Chinese study and interaction.

5.3 Course Description
Where students with some basic Chinese knowledge and language skills are encouraged to make further progress in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating so that they will be more confident working and living in a Chinese environment.
Intermediate and Advanced Chinese Courses:
These courses enable students to read a large amount of newspapers and magazines so as to follow the international political and economic affairs and trends. They will understand more about the rich colorful life in a Chinese society and conduct relevant dialogues and discussions. During the course, students will be trained to express themselves more profoundly in detail and rapidly improve their reading comprehension, speaking and translation abilities. As their Chinese level is greatly improved, they will be more confident to use Chinese to do their work and enjoy their life.

The economy and business transaction between China and a foreign country can be viewed as cross-cultural activities in nature. As Singapore government always focuses on the economic development and interaction with China, local public schools have already started to promote Chinese study. Not only Chinese was prescribed as the obligatory subject for students of Chinese race but Chinese exam is also required for PSLE, O Level and A level. The content of these Chinese courses are quite difficult. As 99% of the school subjects are conducted in English, plus no much Chinese communication environment provided outside of school or in the families, the more students study the harder the contents to be absorbed smoothly, and the less interest student have. Some of them have cultivated a sentiment to be averse to Chinese study.
In view of this situation we open up Chines Leap Progress Class to give special guidance to students with difficulty in learning Chinese as well as students who hate Chinese study. We try our best to help them study Chinese in an effective way and thus gradually love Chinese and strive for the high marks in the core exams.
Here is the detail of our teaching methods.
